[avr-gcc-list] mega168 support in AVaRICE?

Hello,

does the current version of AVaRICE supports the ATmega168?

If not, would it be difficult to add this support?

Regards:

Uwe Fechner

The CVS version does:

Added support for stk500v2 for AtMega168
----------------------------
revision 1.63
date: 2005/11/04 13:51:32; author: c_oflynn; state: Exp; lines: +139 -1

avrdude.conf.in:
-added support for ATMega168, patch #4532 thanks to Manfred Bartz

Errm, nevermind, my other message (which didn't make it back to me
through the list, so I can't write a followup) was about avrdude, not
avarice. Sorry for the confusion.

avarice doesn't and cannot support the ATmega168, as that device does
not have JTAG hardware. It's one of the three exceptions from the
rule where any ATmega >= 16 KB ROM does have JTAG. Remember, the
ATmega168 is just an ATmega88/48 with more flash ROM.

Would it be possible?

I think it would but nobody has even thought about it.

Feel free to contribute ideas and code snippets if you like... I
guess the avarice mailing list would be a better place to discuss it
though. There aren't too many active contributors to avarice these
days (maybe two or three of them), so unless you're willing to write
something yourself, don't expect any miracles. As avarice is written
in C++ and uses a few OO techniques, it might help in your issue as
well (just derive a new subclass for dW).

It would be a cool feature to have, btw.

No, we don't want to omit the JTAG ICE, we're still talking to the
ICE. That part of the protocol is published (and is mostly the same
as when talking to the target via JTAG).

The unpublished and proprietary part is the wire protocol between the
ICE and the target (for both, JTAG and dW, but JTAG has been reverse
engineered to some degree).
